The "Heart" of Killingly

Westfield United Church of Christ, prominently located on the corner of Main Street and Reynolds Street across from the Town Green, is not only physically the "heart" of Killingly, but has, through outreach and inclusiveness, become the "heart" of the community. In full celebration of its unique opportunity to bring Killingly and its community together, Westfield United Church of Christ has presented a weeklong illumination event. Illuminating the windows of this 300 year old historic Church, pristinely maintained with love, are hundreds of transparent hearts, because during these unsettling times, it's important to remember that love is always part of the solutions. We decided to make this a COVID-19 date night. As we drove up to the church it felt as if we were approaching a beacon of love. The sight is lovely to behold, reminding us all that we should let our love shine, even in difficult times. Exploring all the angle views, I felt a sense of wonder, magic, but most importantly, calm. Tonight, 06/13/2020, is the last night of the event. The Church is illuminated from 8:30 to 9:30pm. When we arrived last night there was a small, friendly crowd gathered. We regretted not having masks with us, but took care to keep a distance of 10 feet or more from others. Face masks are highly recommended, although everyone was practicing social distancing, wearing face coverings allows another layer of safety. I suggest wandering around the front and the sides of the Church, there is ample sidewalk and lawn space for viewing and quiet contemplation. The Pastor suggested viewing from the park across the street, Davis Park, and I am glad we did! We took a pleasant stroll in the park before heading home. MORE INFO
