COVID-19 Developments

With medical science working over time to develop effective treatment, prevention, and vaccines for the COVID-19 virus, it's no surprise to learn that some are looking back through what has been used to combat past contagions. While tuberculosis is a bacterial infection vs. a viral infection, clinicians are seeking to study the efficacy of the tuberculosis vaccine, BCG. The vaccine is not required in the U.S. but some of the countries where the vaccine is required are experiencing fewer coronavirus deaths than their neighbors where it's not required. It is not clear the vaccine is what accounts for those difference, but there are clinical trials underway in several countries to explore the possibility that the vaccine may be helpful.
