Good News for Killingly!

As announced by Governor Ned Lamont earlier this week, the FEMA mobile vaccination units have arrived in the State of Connecticut, the first state in the country to receive mobile units under President Biden's plan to support jurisdictions in providing COVID-19 vaccination opportunities to vulnerable municipalities.

Connecticut's goal of making sure every resident who wants a COVID-19 vaccine gets one is bolstered by the federal government's arrival of the FEMA mobil vaccination units. The units began vaccinating residents Monday, March 29, 2021 in Bridgeport and will visit a total of five Bridgeport locations through Wednesday, April 7, 2021 before moving on to other Connecticut locations, including Killingly.

The units are expected to vaccinate at least 250 people daily; administering the 0ne-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccines, and eliminating the need for a second dose appointment.

The full mobile vaccination schedule has not yet been announced. Sign up information will be available for each of the towns and cities as the schedules are announced, but walk-ins will also be welcomed. Until the schedule for Killingly is announced, residents can still continue to check for vaccine availability at the Vaccine Finder website and schedule appointments through the CT Vaccine Portal . It is important to note that while Connecticut has moved to an age based vaccine schedule, as of April 1, 2021, all adults are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccination. Adults with certain medical conditions should seek to be vaccinated as quickly as possible. To check if your health conditions put you at a higher risk for severe illness or death from COVID-19, regardless of age, please visit the CDC Guidance for Medical Condition risk.

Killingly has been chosen as a mobile vaccination unit site based on the CDC's Vulnerability Index which factor twelve key indicators used to identify a community at risk. Killingly identifies as vulnerable to the COVID-19 Pandemic due to the following indicators:

> Infection prevalence.

> Rate of infection increase.

> Daytime density/traffic. > Residential density.

> Deficient social distancing interventions.

> Low testing rates.

> Susceptible population.

> Air pollution.

> Age distribution.

> Resident comorbidities.

> Health disparities. > Hospital bed availability. Killingly has been listed in the CT-DPH's Red Category for Town-Level COVID Response for the past six months, meaning as a town, we're not improving. Let's get vaccinated and let's get out of the red!
